Description: This is a great area to see scrub-jays. The area consists of two partially developed subdivisions covering 8.5 square miles. This area has the largest Florida Scrub-Jay population in Charlotte County.

Vegetation Communities: Scrub, scrubby flatwoods, pine flatwoods, disturbed areas, urban areas (houses etc), and the shores of the Peace River.

Location: The area is located south of the Charlotte/DeSoto County line, west and north of the Peace River, and east of I75. The area is best accessed by Sandhill Blvd. or Harborview Road.

Amenities: The vast majority of the area is private property. Stay on the road and public right-of-ways. Do not trespass. There is one County park off Voyager Road: Harbor Heights Park. The park has a boat ramp, rest rooms and picnic shelters and a view of the Peace River.

Animal Species: You may not be able to see all these species

Birds that you will likely encounter year-round include:

Florida scrub-jay Northern cardinal red-bellied woodpecker blue jay rufous sided-towhee
laughing gull white-eyed vireo red-shouldered hawk brown pelican white-winged dove
Northern mockingbird double-crested cormorant ground dove loggerheaded shrike mourning dove
downy woodpecker        

In the fall and winter you will also likely see:

Eastern phoebee palm warbler tree swallow American robin yellow-rumped warbler
American kestrel blue-gray gnatcatcher pine warbler Eastern meadowlark  

Birds you will likely see in the flatwoods and the general vicinity:

Mourning dove White eyed vireo Black vulture Northern mockingbird Laughing gull
blue-gray gnatcatcher Turkey vulture Gray catbird red-bellied woodpecker  

Documented Mammals:

raccoon Nine banded armadillo bobcat Manatee (Peace River)

Documented Herps:

Eastern diamondback rattlesnake brown anole gopher tortoise American alligator
